A quick guide on how to create a wallet for the $SEI blockchain. The name of the wallet we will be using is “Compass Wallet”
Step 1: Navigate to the Compass Wallet download section
The Compass Wallet website provides a download section, which can be found here. That page should look similar to the image below. Always be sure you are downloading from the authentic compasswallet.io source.
Click on the browser option that you are using.
Step 2: Add Compass Wallet extension to your browser
Once you select the browser you are using, it will open another window that looks like the image below. Click on the “Add” button as circled in the image below and the wallet extension will be added to your browser.
Step 3: Creating a wallet
There are a few options for creating a Compass Wallet, but we won’t be covering the options about importing existing wallets.
Select the option to “Create new wallet”.
Step 4: Record your Recovery Phrase!
With all crypto wallets, it is absolutely critical that you record your recovery phrase somewhere safe. This phrase will be used to recover your wallet if you ever lose access to your device, but that also means anyone that has it can take control of your wallet so never share it!
Once you have it copied and saved somewhere safe, click the button labelled “I have it saved somewhere safe.”
You will then be prompted to verify the recovery phrase. Input the correct words from your recovery phrase and then click “confirm”.
Step 5: Create Wallet Password
Create a strong password for your wallet and be sure to save this somewhere. Once you have your sign-in details chosen, click “Proceed”
Step 6: Enjoy your Compass Wallet
Click the plug-in button on your browser (circled in the image below) and click on the Compass Wallet. You should now have a screen that looks very similar to the image below.
Congrats, your wallet is set up and functioning! At this time, the wallet has no funds in it. We will cover how to send and receive funds later.
From this window you are able to do a series of thing such as record your SEI Wallet address, create additional wallets under this same sign-in and recovery phrase, and much more. Feel free to explore the options, just stay safe and secure and don’t connect your wallet to anything you are sure is safe!
