Mad Lads are a collection of 10,000 PFP based xNFTs on the Solana blockchain.
They are a flagship collection boasting new capabilities within the NFT space, these aren’t any old NFTs, these are xNFTs! And to answer what is Mad lads we must first answer what are xNFTs?
xNFTS stand for executable NFTs, these are non fungible tokens just like any other NFT apart from one distinction. These xNFTs can have code embedded into them no longer making them a static token on the blockchain, they can be more thought of an executable program or application like you would find on your computer.
This is all made possible with the new product Backpack which has been developed by Solana based developers Coral who are also responsible for Mad Lads. They secured 20 million in a strategic funding round to build out their flagship wallet for the xNFTs. It’s more than just a wallet though it is an xNFT operating system, one day aiming to be your one stop shop for all crypto assets, protocols and blockchains to store and natively interface in a single place.
Whilst the full capabilities of xNFTs are yet to be discovered, they allow for more interactive experiences with your NFTs, for example the Mad Lads NFT had a unique reveal process where holders received a piece to a puzzle, that puzzle was a giant picture of a rug and once they announced the reveal you had to find your piece of the puzzle.
Upon finding your piece in the puzzle, you clicked to reveal your Mad Lads xNFT! They coined this interactive process…’rug to reveal’ showcasing just one example of how this tech can be used.
By promoting open-source innovation, streamlining user experience, incentivizing community building, and more, Backpack could very well usher in a new phase of NFT growth, all starting on Solana.
As of yet, there has been no announcements regarding specific utilities for this collection.
One can speculate that any future developments with Backpack, that Mad Lads holders may receive beta testing opportunities among other early sneak peaks with next generation software.

Unbiased review from a non holder but I do see the Mad Lads brand as a very unique artistic design which is refreshing to see something different on Solana, I also believe since the departure of DeGods from Solana that Solana NFT community members are looking for that king community to take the thrown and IMO Mad Lads have all the ingredients to make that happen.
The branding is on point, the team is super active and the community is loud, they also have the right supporters and ambassadors on board at an early stage helping represent the brand in a positive light.
I see the Mad Lads project as being like an experimental ground for the Backpack/xNFT team to test out cool features and possibilities available using xNFT tech, this IMO will act like mini catalysts over time as they trial or beta new ideas. This market is fueled by attention and having an good supply of ammunition means these guys will always be able to keep firing bullets to keep interest and eyes on the project.
